That said, this is by far the least "clean" place we have ever stayed. Literally ever. This is especially compounded by the cleaning fee attached to the rental - we were charged over $1100 for a one week stay. The kitchen, living room and dining room were all not cleaned. The kitchen had dead insects and a filthy stove. We had to clean to cook. The stove vent was coated in grease and growing mold. The dining room table was covered in a layer of dust/dirt. Every corner of these three rooms had spider webs, dust bunnies, gecko poop trails, etc. Made the mistake of dropping something that rolled under the couch -- absolutely disgusting under there as well.
The lanai was coated in dead bugs, gecko poop and general grime. I had to wash it down with the hose before we could use it.
Management company was informed and didn't address the issue in a serious way. They offered to have the cleaning company come back -- why would I want the same cleaners to come back and do their job and disrupt my family vacation. No other solution offered.
If I was the owner of this house I would be pissed at the condition to which the management company is maintaining it.
Location is great, less than a five minute drive to the commercial center and grocery store, 10 minutes to Hanelei Beach and Blue Dolphin Fish Market (great fresh fish), and a 15 minute walk to the ocean if you are a surfer.
The air conditioning in the bedroom works nicely, and the downstairs stayed cool and comfortable with the (screened) doors open and the ceiling fans on.
This is a quality-built house with nice interior finish and real wood floors - it looks like cherry wood floors, which is a soft wood and requires extra care - like no shoes and be careful not to drop anything heavy. While this makes the house a wonderful place to stay, it is NOT a party house - and I don't think i would be comfortable bringing young kids to this house unless they were already accustomed to needing to be careful and not throwing things around inside of the house - this wonderful house deserves a lot of respect and care.
I highly recommend this house and hope to return in the not-to-distant future.
